The Shadow 400 was Honda Japan's 400 cc cruiser for the domestic licence class, sharing its low, long body (17-inch front, 15-inch rear wheels) with the Shadow 750. Its 52-degree, three-valve SOHC V-twin came from the Steed with revised intake and exhaust and a wide-ratio five-speed box, driving through a shaft. It offered full-size cruiser looks with a very low seat for novice riders.
